EDITORIAL REVIEWDoosan Moxy MT 31
BY: STEVEN DOWNES
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Doosan Moxy MT31 articulated dump truck from NZG. The model is based on the original Moxy MT31 casting that was released several years ago and has been painted in the distinctive orange colours of Doosan with updated markings.
The model is highly detailed with scaled grab rails on each side of the body with integrated rear view mirror poles that have reflective surfaces. Simulated anti-slip panels have been printed on the walking surfaces leading up to the cab and mesh light guards are fitted over the front work lights.
The cab interior has been replicated and is visible through the clear windows. The edges of the windows have been highlighted black to simulate the rubber seals which adds to the realism and the rear window has a printed mesh screen.
The dump body raises to a good heaight and the cylinders are stiff enough for the body to remain in the position chosen.
The underside of the body has simulated wear pads highlighted in black and tiny chains fitted to the rear tailgate.
The tailgate is a nice touch on the model and functions very accurately, with the chains tightening as the body raises before the tailgate slowly raises to expel the load.
The wheels have highly detailed hubs and are fitted to axles that have a simulated suspension system allowing the model to demonstrate the excellent off-road mobility of the MT31. The tyres have a very crisp tread pattern moulded into them and the chassis has a simulated safety bar fitted.
The underside of the model features a replicated drivetrain to the rear axle with a detailed front suspension linkage with the frame achieving a good degree of steering movement. This is a very good update to the original model and there is hope that Doosan look to have more 1:50th scale models produced in the future.
